My Brother Is A Mermaid is a short film about a trans teenager, starring a trans actor. The story is a magical realism, focussing on the unconditional love between siblings as the elder one begins their social transition. You can find out all about the film on the website –

The aim of the film is to educate, challenge prejudice, and expand understanding and empathy. They’ve taken great care to consult with the UK transgender community in the writing and creation of the film, they’re firm believers in the matra ‘nothing about us, without us’.

You can see an interview with Cameron (the actor) who has fantastic insights into transphobia in 2018, the importance of casting trans actors in trans roles, and generally on trans representation on screen.
if you wish, you can also support the film which is currently being crowdfunded.
